Alveolar ridge preservation, an overtreatment? // Nikos Mardas
Dr Nikos Mardas qualified in Dentistry from Athens University in 1992. He completed his 3-year specialist training and MS degree in Periodontology in 1997 at the Royal Dental College, University of Aarhus, Denmark. He was awarded a PhD degree in 2005 from the same University. In July 2015, he was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer & Honorary Consultant in the Centre for Adult Oral Health, Barts & The London School of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. Dr Mardas is also consultant Periodontist and implant surgeon in private practice.

Title: Alveolar ridge preservation: an overtreatment?

Following tooth extraction, a well-described process of wound healing events results in an extensive three-dimensional bone resorption of the alveolar ridge that present a significant problem for later prosthetic reconstruction either with a conventional bridge or an implant-supported crown. Several techniques and materials have been suggested to preserve ridge dimensions and contour and facilitate the construction of a future prosthesis that satisfies aesthetic and functional demands. This presentation will discuss the different treatment approaches for alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) and the evidence on their effectiveness to preserving ridge dimensions, promoting new bone formation in post extraction sockets, facilitating implant placement and improving implant related outcomes. Decision making processes and technical clinical details will be presented and discussed  with case presentations.

Copying instead of interpreting - fully digital workflow in implantology and implant prosthetics // Nikolaus Fürhauser

His research achievements include 1st place awards at the 36th DGI Congress in 2022, EuroPerio9 in 2018, and ÖGI in 2017. He is an active member of the European Association for Osseointegration and the Austrian Society for Periodontology.

Title: Copying instead of interpreting – fully digital workflow in implantology and implant prosthetics

The fully digital workflow in implantology offers numerous advantages. By minimizing manual intervention and using digital technologies, significantly greater precision is achieved, resulting in more accurate results. In addition, this workflow enables increased time efficiency as many work steps can be carried out faster and more efficiently. This not only shortens the treatment time, but also the waiting times for patients. Another key benefit is increased patient satisfaction resulting from better predictability of results and often less invasive treatments. Precise digital planning and implementation ensures that treatment goals are achieved more reliably, which increases patient confidence. Ultimately, the largely automated process significantly reduces the susceptibility to errors, as digital data flows and specialized software minimize human errors and thus significantly increase the safety and quality of treatment.
